"Arms Length Management Organisations" (ALMOs)

UK not-for-profit companies set up by a local authorities to manage and improve their housing stock. As at July 2008, 70 ALMOs were managing over half of all UK council housing, comprising of more than a million properties.

ALMOs are owned by local authorities and operate under the terms of a management agreement between the authority and the ALMO.

In March 2009 an ALMO experienced an overspend in their repairs and maintenance division of £2.5 million in 1 month.

ROI was asked to look at providing a seamless operation that would provide a complete solution.

  1. Advise residents of repair date
  2. Remind residents 1 day before if their appointment was still suitable (therefore reducing "No Shows" ) saving the client considerable out costs
  3. After the repair was finished an automated voice reach message went to residents to gauge their response and measure residents satisfaction
  4. This generated a response to the finance department to register "Job completed with satisfaction" which in turn would allow payment to be made to the contractor
  5. The resultant effect was to prevent any further overspend.
